Pre-AP / AP Accel
Pre–AP(Advanced Placement) program for selected incoming 9th graders. These students are given an accelerated option based on their academic achievement in middle school and high performance on the FSA or other standardized test. The Pre–AP strand allows students to take an honors-level sophomore course as a freshman, thus giving them the opportunity to take an AP course as a sophomore.
A second, more advanced strand, called AP ACCEL, gives 9th graders who qualify the opportunity to take an AP course beginning their freshman year.
The benefits of the Pre-AP Program are many. Pre-AP freshmen may enroll in World History Honors, which is a required Social Studies course usually offered in the 10th grade. This allows them to choose one or more AP courses -- as sophomores.
For a select group of ninth grade students who desire an even greater challenge, we offer a second component to our program entitled AP Accel. This optional offering allows those freshman students, who qualify through their exceptional grade point average and standardized test score, to take an Advanced Placement course, either AP World History (which satisfies the World History requirement for graduation) OR AP Human Geography, AND/OR AP Biology (with certain pre and co-requisites), allowing these students to get an early start on the Advanced Placement experience.
